2012 - I BIG - Bienal Internacional de Guarulhos do Pequeno Formato
LOCAL ARTISTS ORGANIZE GUARULHOS' FIRST INTERNATIONAL BIENNIAL
Translator: Gustavo Rosa
Exhibition gathers around 500 works of art by artists from 25 countries.
The B.I.G. (“I Bienal Internacional de Guarulhos do Pequeno Formato” – Guarulh
os’
First International Bienal for Small Formats) starts at December 8th,
Saturday, at Amadeu’s Bar, and it counts with the participation of
artists from 25 countries. Because of the privilege given to the small
formats, the works of art of the exposition – that’s going to be open to
the public until February 2013 – don’t exceed 10x15 cm (3.9x5.9 in) or
15x15x15 cm (5.9x5.9x5.9 in), for two-dimensional and three-dimensional
works, respectively.
The idea for the Biennial was born from the disquiet of some citizens, to fill the large gap on the cultural scenario of Guarulhos City. Organized by various artists, professors, art educators, activists and culture-interested people, without any ideological bond, the exhibition was built in a public and itinerant way.
Drawing, painting, sculpture, object, assemblage, installation, engraving, photography, urban art, performance and even electronic art, are part of B.I.G. “We live in an almost-colonial delay, by some points of view. We don’t need any license to think and produce art, ideas, life”, says one of the notes signed by the organizers of the Biennial. It’ll be an incentive for the popular participation on the cultural scenario of Guarulhos and a space for the new artists.
The Organizing Committee received over 500 works, by around 200 participating artists. As usual, to contribute in this format of exposition, it was not necessary to be a graduated artist, just to like art and have the natural disquietude.
The exposed works will be part of the Biennial collection and, by the end of the exposition, they’ll travel by itinerancy to the ateliers from Guarulhos City and other countries. When they return to Guarulhos, they’ll be incorporated to a Museum’s collection.
